Feel like you're on vacation every day at this resort property in the jewel of the Fraser Valley
When tasked with designing the residences of Lakeside Cultus Lake, the obvious first step for interior designer Debbie Evans was to consider the surroundings. With the property situated directly on the water and surrounded by trees, the aim was to use the pristine natural beauty as a base for the rest of the interior, creating a natural oasis with contemporary features and a homey, welcoming feel.
For the design of Lakeside, Evans and her team utilized the property’s natural elements and gave them a modern, contemporary upgrade. Each home in the property features an open floor plan, nine-foot ceilings on the main floor and soaring contemporary wood finishings.
The immediate focal point of each home are the massive glass doors and windows in the living area, providing ample natural light and breathtaking views of the lake, only steps away.
“The key to designing a modern rustic space like this one is to make the most of the open floor plan. We chose a relaxing colour palette, inspired by the lakeside lifestyle. We also utilized the preserved and exposed natural architectural elements on the fireplace, from the weathered wood paneling and concrete base. The floors are made of wide plank oak with brushed finish, in keeping with the home’s modern rustic aesthetic.”
“Many of the units have bedrooms directly face the lake, and we wanted to take advantage of that. Each bedroom is bright and spacious, and like with the living room, we went with neutral, calming colours and finishes to give the space a soothing vibe. Bedrooms in some of the units were recently upgraded with wide plank engineered oak flooring, while wool berber carpeting was used in the staircases to add warmth and texture.”
“Everyone loves lofts, but what makes this one special is that it has incredible views of the lake. Whether you want to curl up with a book or turn it into an office, the layout of the loft area is incredibly versatile and overlooks the rest of the home.”
“For the kitchen, we opted for modern, wood-style flat slab cabinetry and built-in strip lighting. The quartz granite countertops, also found on the large kitchen island, were added to brighten up the space further, while the marble mosaic backsplash was used to give it a bit of sheen.
"Since the kitchen offers a stunning view of the lake and outdoors, the sunlight bounces off the granite countertop, backsplash and metal accents, making them sparkle.”
“The goal for the bathrooms was to make them feel spa-like while also embracing rustic charm. To do this, we installed modern amenities throughout, from the floating vanity and quartz countertop to the Caroma undermount sink and modern wall sconces.
"In the master bathroom, the shower and tub feature full-length, curbless shower stalls, frameless glass doors and porcelain tile. Another modern touch is the automatic motion sensor light switches, giving the space a truly high-end vibe.”
“The stars truly aligned at Lakeside when we started to design the dock. We created a one-of-a-kind dock lounge with 21 boat slips. Each unit has its own private slip.
"The dock lounge features a BBQ kitchen, a 12-foot long harvest dining table, a huge enclosed firepit area, a sun deck with lounge chairs, and a covered area to get some shade from the sun. All owners and their guests have access to this amazing amenity on the lake for fun, relaxation and recreation.”
Lakeside was developed and completed by Jim Young in September 2019, one of five generations of the Young family to enjoy their summers at Cultus Lake. Jim has been coming to Cultus since he was 10 years old and is now enjoying making lasting memories there with his nine grandchildren.
